August 20, 2008

1.                   Harvey Holmes, Chairman, called the August 20th, meeting to order at 7:32 p.m.

2.                   Roll Call: There were 7 clubs present and 3 absent.  Clubs attending were:  Alamo Bass Club, Freedom Bass Club, Helotes Bass Club, Rebel Bass Club, San Antonio Bass Club, S.A.P.D. Bass Busters, and Universal City Bass Club.  Clubs not in attendance:  Comal, Lone Star Lunkers, and McArthur High School Bass Club.

3.                   Secretary Report: Minutes from the July 2008 meeting were accepted.

4.                   Treasurer’s Report: Metro’s corrected financial report was given and approved.  We presently have $2,294.07 in our account. This includes the TIFF balance of $1,045.00.

5.                   Quality Bass Club asked Harvey Holmes to announce the upcoming Fishing for Freedom V that is scheduled for Saturday, October 25th @ Choke Canyon.  Fishing for Freedom V is for our returning military heroes to enjoy a day on the water and to compete for “big fish” honors as well.   Boaters, servers, cooks, money donations, etc., are needed in order to put another great event on.  As in the past, volunteers are asked to please show up between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. at Calliham.

Also with this event, there is a Wounded Warrior event scheduled for Saturday,

September 27th @ Lake Fork.  There will be a meal on Friday night with registration

and pairing of all contestants and volunteers.

6.                   Harvey asked if any clubs had turned in their check to cover its club member’s entries for the upcoming City Championship.  There were 108 entries accepted with the anticipation of more.  Harvey thanked all of the clubs for cooperating with Metro’s request and providing the entries ahead of time

7.                   All clubs are reminded to please donate a door prize to City.  Door prizes should be given to Robin McFarlane so that she may make a list of what has been donated.

8.                   Harvey announced that for the next couple of years, the clubs and their members who belong to Metro will not decide where to hold the City Championship.  Until Metro can get back into the swing of things, this decision will be made according to which lake and its town can provide what Metro requires conducting this tournament.  Robin McFarlane is working on a proposal to present to both Amistad and Falcon for next year’s tournament.

9.                   Harvey discussed having a raffle to help defray Metro’s cost.  At our last Metro meeting, a raffle was discussed and Robin McFarlane stated that a big raffle would be rather difficult to put together with so little time.  Since we are now in August, possibly Metro could raffle an item or a couple of items just during the City Championship.  Harvey said that this would be discussed more at our September’s meeting.  Dolline Holmes did suggest Metro raffling a bow & arrow off.  Mitch Strait with Helotes Bass Club stated that a while back Helotes sold hot dogs, etc., at Bass Pro Shops for a day and made good money, and maybe Metro might want to think about doing that.  Chris Short with Universal City stated that this upcoming weekend, Universal City is having a fish fry and auction, and during this time, a rod and reel were going to be raffled off.  All proceeds from the rod and reel are going to be donated to Metro.

10.               Harvey thanked everyone who attended Boysville and made it a success.  The Towne & Country Optimist have decided that it will be held next year in Live Oak again.  This year the TP&W stocked 216 catfish into the pond and possibly next year may be able to stock a few more for this event.  So, mark your calendar, it’s always the last Sunday in July.

11.              Harvey went “around the table” and asked the clubs where they had fished or was fishing.  S.A.B.C. just fished Falcon as a paper tournament and had tremendous weights with a new club record of 62.22#.  S.A.B.C.’s team weight was 105#.  Don Pierce announced that he had 44# and came in 8th Place.  Freedom Bass Club is traveling to Amistad for their club tournament.  Helotes Bass Club fished Choke 2 weeks ago and had a good tournament.  Alamo will be fishing Amistad this upcoming weekend.  S.A.P.D. fished Amistad this past weekend and reports it was some what tough for them, with 1st being around 30# or so.  Universal City fished Choke this past weekend with 42.77# taking 1st Place honors and 2nd Place being 40.32#.  There was a 10.97# weighed in for big bass.  Robin McFarlane fished with Universal City and weighed in a 9.75. Rebel Bass Club did not hold a tournament for the month of August.

12.               Don Pierce with S.A.B.C. announced that they are having a Big Bass Tournament fund raiser on Choke Canyon.  It is scheduled for Saturday, October 25th.  There will be hourly big bass pay outs.  Don is to have more information at our next Metro meeting.

13.               The next METRO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17th, @ 7:30 p.m. at the VFW on Aviation Boulevard in Universal City, Texas.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:37 p.m.
